India Gate is the pride of Delhi. Situated at the at the end of Rajpath, India Gate is 42 meters high and is a popular relaxation area during the summer evenings and a great picnic spot during winter. Initially called All India War Memorial, the gate was designed and built by Lutyens who is also credited with designing New Delhi.

The gate was built in memory of the 90,000 Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World War I. The names of all the soldiers who died during World War I are inscribed on the walls of the Gate. Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame, burns 24 hours. This was lit to pay homage to the soldiers who were killed during the Indo- Pak war in 1971.

During the night, India gate is dazzled by floodlights and the fountains nearby are lit up with colored lights.
